TiVo this! can’t-miss geek movies on TV, 05.22-05.28
I scour the skeds so you don’t have to, and point out the best geek highlights of the week in some unexpected places: Turner Classic Movies and The Sundance Channel, which show films uncut and uninterrupted (and sometimes in letterbox). But ya gotta turn to The SciFi Channel once in a while, too, commercials and editing be damned — there’s nothing like geeking out in front of the tube with built-in breaks for munchie refills and snark attacks.
(All times are Eastern. Times between midnight and 5:59am actually refer to the previous date. In other words, 2am Saturday really means the overnight twilight zone between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Links in movie titles go to my review.)
8:00PM: At the Circus. The Marx Brothers join the circus.
11:15PM: Freaks. One of us… one of us… one of us…
9:30PM: The World, the Flesh, and the Devil. Nuclear holocaust and racism. What a day.
It’s a blaxploitation mini marathon with:
9:00AM: The Corporation. Snarky documentary about our economic overlords.
9:00PM: Hulk. Ang Lee’s underappreciated arthouse comic-book flick.
Clearly, this is the day to stay home and curl up on the couch with a few good bad monster movies:
9:00AM: Godzilla vs. Hedorah
11:00AM: Godzilla vs. Gigan
1:00PM: Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
3:00PM: Godzilla vs. Megalon
5:00PM: Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah
9:00AM: Tornado! In an all-day marathon of weather-disaster movies, this is the one to catch: it stars Bruce Campbell.
9:00PM: Mansquito. And this entry in the all-day bug-movie marathon is the can’t-miss one. Best. Title. Ever.
