BUMPED UP: last chance to become a micropatron… forever
BUMPED UP. Just want to keep this in front of everyone…
This is it: this is your last chance to get in on micropatrony goodness forever. I’m going to be closing the ranks of micropatrons forever as of 11:59PM Eastern December 31, 2006. I’m NOT ending the benefits and giveaways to micropatrons — those will continue indefinitely. But I won’t accept new micropatrons, and I won’t ask for renewals, ever, from anyone who is a micropatron as of January 1, 2007. In other words, anyone who is a current micropatron as of the beginning of 2007 will be a micropatron forever, without having to pony up another penny, ever.
The thing is, the micropatron program has served its purpose. I saw some tough times in recent years, and donations from micropatrons helped me through them, but today, things are much better. Traffic is way up at FlickFilosopher.com, which means ad revenues are also up; some of that new traffic is coming via my postings at Film.com, which is itself paid work; and my reviews are appearing in more and more newspapers around the country, and I continue to work to expand that little self-syndication network. So the need for the micropatron program, which was once pretty vital, has disappeared.
But that doesn’t mean I won’t continue to be grateful to everyone who came through when I needed support the most. I have TON of cool stuff sitting here to give away to micropatrons — DVDs, posters, T-shirts, and books, including some big, beautiful, expensive coffee-table books about movies, like Louise Brooks: Lulu Forever and Scenes from the City: Filmmaking in New York, each of which is selling, even at discounted Amazon prices, for more than the micropatronage donation. (Micropatrons also get a discount off my own book, The Totally Geeky Guide to The Princess Bride, and will get discounts on my upcoming books, the first of which will be about the new Doctor Who.)
How do you become a micropatron? Easy. Send me 30 bucks American via PayPal or Amazon Honor System, or via check or money order drawn on a U.S. bank in U.S. dollars and payable to “MaryAnn Johanson.” (Don’t forget to include your email address!) Send it to:
PO Box 221
Bronx, NY 10470
And you’re in.
