the film criticism aspect of cyber | by maryann johanson

opening wide today: ‘Saw IV,’ ‘Dan in Real Life,’ ‘The Darjeeling Limited’

Saw IV
The torture-porn franchise is back for its fourth outing, featuring yet more terrible young actors you’ve never heard of enduring bodily mutilation. Is beating a dead horse considered “cruel and unusual” punishment? (not screened for critics)

Dan in Real Life
Steve Carell is unlucky in love… again, plus he’s stuck with Dane Cook as a costar. Listen, Steve: build an ark, throw Dane Cook on it, and run like hell in the other direction. (my review is here)

The Darjeeling Limited
Wes Anderson’s new flick posits three grieving brothers traveling across India by train in the wake of their father’s death. It’s a comedy, honestly. Okay, it’s one of those smarty-pants comedies you only snicker at, but still. (my review is here)
