opening wide this long holiday weekend: ‘August Rush,’ ‘Enchanted,’ ‘The Mist,’ ‘No Country for Old Men,’ ‘This Christmas,’ ‘Hitman’

August Rush
An urchin musical prodigy spins melodic magic to find the parents that abandoned him as a baby. It’s the first mashup of Charles Dickens and Amadeus Mozart. (my review is here)

Enchanted
A Disney princess finds true love in the Big Apple. Wait till she encounters the next fantasy: a two-bedroom doorman apartment for under $3500 a month. (my review is here)

The Mist
And now the weather for Stephen King country: dense fog, with 100 percent chance of monsters with tentacles, mass panic, and the stinky sweat of human desperation. Tomorrow: sunny. (my review is here)

No Country for Old Men
Life wisdom from The Movies: When you find a bag full of $2 million, the criminals it belongs to are close behind, and will kill you to get it back. Lesson No. 2: Everyone is beautiful! (my review is here)

This Christmas
An estranged clan gathers round the Christmas tree for the first time in years for turkey and merriment and holiday bickering. Apparently, they’re all out of therapy fodder and need to reload. (my review is here)

Hitman
A guy with a barcode on his head turns hired killer, or something. Well, wouldn’t you be pissed if someone slapped a barcode on your head? That’s not right. (not screened for critics, though I might catch it this weekend)
