weekend open thread: we’re changing the clocks already? edition

It’s nice that it feels like spring here in New York today — this winter has felt endless — but it still feels bizarre to be going to Daylight Savings Time already. Which means it’s gonna be dark in the morning again. I hate trying to wake up in the dark.

Battlestar Galactica blogging will be late this weekend — maybe not till tomorrow. I have access to a car today, which is a rarity these days, and I must take advantage of it to make a big supermarket/Target/Trader Joe’s run.

Hey! Did you make a donation to my Red Nose Day fundraising drive yet? C’mon: you can scrape up a couple lousy quid, can’t you?

What’s your weekend looking like?

I’m cleaning, doing physical therapy, re-reading King Leopold’s Ghost, and hoping that at some point tomorrow I get a chance to watch the latest BSG episode sitting on my Tivo. This requires banning the kids from the living room for an hour, which can be tricky.

On Sunday afternoon I’ll be singing “To Hell with Love” from Robert Altman’s “Short Cuts” in Amsterdam, during the first-ever gig of my new, oddball blues and jazz band. Getting ever so slightly nervous.

Jan – oh, wow, I LOVE THAT SONG! Good luck – post here after the show and let us know how it went.

Well, it doesn’t feel like spring where I live. We just got 4 more inches of snow and the temps are dropping in low 20’s for highs. But hey, there’s more daylight….

Anne-Kari, thanks for your support from across the pond (I presume). The brief, six song mini-gig was a smashing success: we got very positive feedback and a lot of encouragement from friends and other audience members who are keen to hear more. Groaning my way through Constipation Blues (Screamin’ Jay Hawkins) was my big moment and was followed by my constipated – i.e. near-silent – trumpet solo. Still, the opener To Hell with Love wasn’t bad (with crazy vibe solo, less laid back than Terry Adam’s piano on the OST). Everybody played well and my new band is off to a great start.
