women get pushed to the sidelines…

…unless they’re the most powerful celebs in the world. But even that ain’t as good as it sounds…

Yes, it’s “The Week in Women,” my regular rant against Hollywood’s regular disparaging of half the human race. It’s up now over at the Alliance of Women Film Journalists, and it’s the perfect way to start off the weekend, isn’t it? Enjoy.

Highly recommended. I’ve read many of your columns over at the AWFJ site. Your illustrations of the issues in this week’s entry are even more illuminating than usual.

As an already sympathetic reader I might not be a member of the most important audience for your work. Nevertheless, I always appreciate the opportunity to think about ideas at a new level of awareness.

(And a side note on that list of 25 sci-fi women linked in your article. I might have completely agreed with their choices if they’d stopped at 10, but then they got loopy. Susan Ivanova, Willow Rosenberg, and Cylon Six all deserve higher placement than anyone in the 11-15 section of that list.)

The photos of #6 in the early days of the new Battlestar Galactica bugged me and was part of the reason I didn’t watch the show at first. But, once I got into the show, I found Six a fascinating character.
