trailer break: ‘The Yellow Handkerchief’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer…

This film was at Sundance two years ago, in January 2008, which means it was completed before Twilight even started shooting. I think it’s probably a safe bet that the only reason The Yellow Handkerchief is even getting a release at all now is because of Kristen Stewart’s presence here.

And that’s really too bad. I haven’t seen the film (and I won’t until DVD, which I bet will be timed to coincide with the June release of Twilight: Eclipse), so I have no idea if it’s any good or not. But it’s got a cast in William Hurt and Maria Bello that was already impressive before Stewart became a Name, and it looks like the kind of grownup drama that we don’t see enough of at the movies. It’s depressing to think that the only reason it’s getting a theatrical release at all is because one of its then-almost-unknown teen cast members is now a star.

The Yellow Handkerchief opens in limited release in the U.S. (and Canada?) on February 26; no U.K. release date has been announced.

You say “it looks like the kind of grownup drama that we don’t see enough of at the movies” yet you’ll wait for DVD instead of seeing it at the movies? Maybe we don’t see enough of these kind of movies precisely because they choose just like you not to see it in theaters.
