if you love me (part 2)…

…you’ll recommend me.

At the suggestion of reader Dokeo, I’m trying a little experiment in building traffic and word of mouth for the next couple of weeks. I’m asking regular readers to forward to their friends their favorite FlickFilosopher.com post from the past week. These are some of my own favorites, if I may make so bold:
this is why Neil Gaiman is a god

How to Train Your Dragon (review)

fresh faces? in what universe?

question of the day: How could we change film criticism to please Kevin Smith?

question of the day: Disney thinks ‘Rapunzel’ too girly, renames it ‘Tangled’: good move?

Young Sherlock Holmes (review)

trailer break: ‘Eat Pray Love’

‘Caprica’ blogging: “Ghosts in the Machine”

(See here for complete list of March’s posts.)

Obviously, I’m not asking that you annoy people who wouldn’t be interested in such nonsense as the crap I post here. But if there is someone you know who might be intrigued and isn’t already reading FlickFilosopher.com, why not send ’em a link?

I’m hoping to integrate into the in-progress upgrade of the site unobtrusive ways to Digg posts here, and otherwise recommend them via social networking. Stay tuned…

I enjoy your work and occasionally forward links to your posts. I don’t really think that “bourgeois free movie pig whom Kevin Smith believes deserves to be fucked” represents the overall tone of your site. To my ear it just repeats the abuse instead of making fun of it or co-opting it.

…You won’t treat the title of this post as a straight line.

    But, seriously, folks.

I tried recommending the site to my ex-girlfriend back when we were still in the “sharing stuff we like” phase of our relationship but she’s not really into the Internet and the only part of the site she seemed to like were the cat videos.

As for my siblings, I’m currently the most liberal member of my branch of the family right now–and my brother-in-law still teases me for voting for the Democrats in the last Presidential election. So I’m not sure what good a recommendation from me would do–especially since my siblings seem to read only a small percentage of the links I do send them and rarely respond to anything that doesn’t involve a family event.

    But I’ll think about it…

I don’t think it reflects the tone of this site, either. I hope it holds up Smith’s words as ludicrous compared to the tone of this site. Not that Smith cares, I guess…

I know that–your regulars know that–but a first-time visitor seeing the tag, without knowing the context, might be put off by the misogynist violence of “deserves to be fucked,” fail to get that “tell me more!” feeling, and consequently miss out on the excellence of the rest of the site.

Sorry to come over all Victorian–returning to my tatting in the drawing room (no offense to any actual tatters out there).
