Is this it? It the Gulf Coast dead, not just environmentally but economically?
No amount of money could ever fix that, but why don’t we just dissolve BP and spread its money around to the areas and the people affected? If corporations are people, as the Supreme Court recently said they are, and if the Supreme Court has refused to rule that the death penalty is unconstitutional, then surely this is a capital crime, and BP deserves to pay the ultimate price.
But this is America, where there’s one set of rules for individual ordinary people and another for the rich and their endeavors. So BP won’t suffer any meaningful consequences for its crime, except for poor, poor Tony Hayward not getting his life back, at least not for a week or two.
