end of summer…

It’s a bank-holiday week in the U.K., and the leadup to our own bank-holiday weekend in the U.S., with Labor Day coming up on Monday.

Things feel slow, and I don’t just mean moviewise. It’s hot as hell — again — in New York. (It’s 54 degrees in London. Sounds lovely.)

I’m looking forward to autumn. I feel good things in the air…

Since I’ll be vacationing in your neck of the woods in about one and a half weeks time, do you think that this weather you are now experiencing is going to last for the second half of September?

Because I wouldn’t want to pack the wrong types of clothes before I leave. That might prove detrimental to my health!

It feels like Autumn already – when I’m walking down to the station at 7am it’s got that dewy chilly feel in the air, and the sun’s already getting an autumnal slant to it. Beautiful and sunny but only 19 degrees which is rubbish for most people, but then I love autumn! Hurrah! Leaf-scrunching walks on the North Downs, country pub lunches where they’ve actually lit the fire, feeding the squirrels in St James’s Park at lunch (they’re really cute, they’ll climb up your leg if you hold it out and hold a nut for them).

Oooh, and Bonfire Night, and toffee apples! I never get this excited about summer.

thanks a lot, isobel — i’m consummed with weather envy. there’s a wonderful song called “Autumn in New York” in which the description sounds so wonderful, but is probably 50 years out of date. we seem to go from this miserable humid weather to a sort of dank, damp chilly weather without the glorious tree turning of many years ago. i think the last really glorious, brilliant tree turning we had here in the NE was 25 years ago. something i yearn to see again. or i’d settle for cool weather and a cup of tea and a scone in the outdoor garden of a tea shop in stratford on avon…

Dammit. Now I want a cream tea.

    God, I hope not.

It’s not outside the realm of possibility that it could be 90 and humid at the end of September. But it probably won’t be. It’ll likely still be in the 70s, though.

  • Hey MAJ, I was stuck in 100 degree heat in NYC last weekend! I thought of you. :)

I am all FOR the crisp autumn air! Bring it ON. I’m tired of sweating while doing absolutely nothing.
