‘Doctor Who’ thing of the day: Elisabeth Sladen doesn’t understand the popularity of Sarah Jane Smith
The Sarah Jane Adventures will return to CBBC next week for its fourth season (it’s unlikely to air soon in the U.S., since neither the second or third seasons have yet aired here). It’s within this context that Elisabeth Sladen revealed that she doesn’t understand why fans love her character, according to Digital Spy.
Or does she. Sladen also said:
There are things I aspire to in Sarah Jane. She has a huge frailty but she won’t give up. She almost has a child’s sense of what’s fair and what’s not fair.
It’s something you have to lose as an adult but she just doesn’t let go of that and maybe that is something that makes people feel safer. I don’t know what her appeal is really but I love her – I really do.
It certainly sounds like she has a few ideas about why Sarah would be so appealing.
Do you love Sarah? If so, why? If not, why not?
Personally, I think the Sarah of Adventures is a bit obsessed with the Doctor. Though I suppose that’s easy to do when your neighborhood is getting invaded by alien nasties every week.
