question of the day: Can a Buffy movie be any good without Joss Whedon?
There’s a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie coming! Hoorah! Whedon had this to say:
This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths – just because they can’t think of an original idea of their own … I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death. But, you know, after.
In another piece at the Guardian, Roz Kaveney says that this movie will be “like fanfiction – but not as interesting,” which sounds about right to me, since fanfic — when it’s good, at least — explores previously invented characters and situations from new perspectives. Hollywood, on the other hand, can’t seem to do much else these days but play it safe.
What do you think? Can a Buffy movie be any good without Joss Whedon?
