question of the day: Who the heck is Saoirse Ronan going to play in ‘The Hobbit’?
Cinema Blend’s Josh Tyler pegged it correctly when he concluded, back in November, that one of the four “big story problems Peter Jackson must solve to make The Hobbit” is that J.R.R. Tolkien’s narrative features absolutely no female characters at all. Zippo. Zilch. Nada. Not so much as a standoffish elven princess who could possibly be taken down off her pedestal and developed in a more fully rounded, fully involved character.
So who will 16-year-old Saoirse Ronan be portraying in the film? Cinema Blend dug the tidbit of her casting out of a long, not-Hobbit-centric interview with Peter Jackson’s casting director Ros Hubbard, who offered no details whatsoever about why Ronan had been cast.
What do you think: Who the heck is Saoirse Ronan going to play in The Hobbit?
Blue-sky it. Go wild. Just don’t tell me that she’s going to be a dwarf who, halfway through Mirkwood, reveals she’s actually Thorin Oakenshield’s teenage daughter who disobeyed Dad when he told her she couldn’t come along on his quest. Or maybe Jackson will put Tom Bombadil back into his Middle-earth, and Ronan will play his ladyfriend Goldberry? I actually kinda like that idea…
