‘Doctor Who’ thing of the day: Hire a TARDIS.com
Yesterday I wrote about the steampunk K9 I saw at a British Library exhibition on science fiction. But there was another major Doctor Who thing on display, too — a TARDIS:
Get a little closer, and you can see that the Doctor has left a sign on his ship:
Get a little closer still, and you can see that down at the bottom of that sign there’s a URL:
I had to check this out.
Tardis Hire, at hireatardis.com, is indeed exactly what it says: They will rent you a life-size replica TARDIS… exterior only, of course. You even get to choose between a new-style Matt Smith exterior or a retro Tom Baker exterior.
Why would you want to hire a TARDIS? Ask this guy (via This is Lincolnshire):
Tim Ingham, a 30-year-old IT worker at the University of Lincoln, is a self-confessed Doctor Who geek and even won a competition in 2009 to star as an alien villain of his own creation.
He married his wife Laura, 26, at Nettleham All Saints Church on June 4.
After the ceremony, the newlyweds held a reception at Woodhall Spa Hotel. They were walking around the hotel grounds to find a suitable spot for the obligatory photographs, when Mr Ingham was greeted with a life-size Tardis.
He said: “I came face-to-face with a screen-accurate Tardis and it was a massive surprise.
“It was organised by my wife and dad and everyone knew except for me.
“We did some shots around the Tardis with the photographer – and they’re already on my Facebook page. I’m chuffed to bits.
(If you stumble across a cool Doctor Who thing, feel free to email me with a link.)
