artisanal film reviews | by maryann johanson

film and modern Olympics born within six months of each other in mid 1890s (and other adventures in social networking)

What my followers on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ saw today:
• The metaphor might be a bit stretched here, but I’m intrigued by the fact that film and the modern Olympics were both born within the same six-month period in late 1895/early 1896. Surely that means something… Film: an Olympian spectacle

• I find it hard to believe that with seven billion people living on the planet, someone can’t come up with a new idea… Allergy to Originality

• So, all that money to be made off the Olympics? Why isn’t it spread among the athletes (beyond the few with corporate sponsors)? Cuz, you know, it’s not Coca-Cola and McDonald’s that are drawing viewers… What We Should Learn from Gabby Douglas’s Mom’s Bankruptcy: Treat Our Olympians (And Everyone Else) Better
