These are the days of miracle and wonder…
This is how they’re selling Into Darkness in the tube in London. Not a sign of Kirk or Spock. It’s all Sherlock.
It’s the same over here (Croatia) as well. Cumberbatch is everywhere, nobody else in sight. No surprise there, really – the image composition on the posters with Cumberbatch alone is far superior. Every poster I’ve seen online that incorporates Kirk/Spock(/Uhura) has them clearly tacked on and ruining the image.
An actor the UK audience is likely to have seen and appreciated, rather than one of the interchangeable pretty boys. Makes sense to me even before one considered nationalities.
…And apparently the movie is on track to be a bit of a box office dud. Coincidence?
(And I love Cumberbatch. But for fuck’s sake, people, you go to a Star Trek movie to see Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura…not Sherlock. I really hope this miscalculation in the marketing doesn’t reflect the film, but I’m a loooooong way from trusting JJ Abrams completely.)
