Doctor Who thing: explore the TARDIS on Google Maps

googlemapstardis

In case there was any doubt that the fine folk of Google are enormous dorks…

Go check out Earl’s Court in Google Maps. There’s a police box there — an actual real London Metropolitan Police Box, as I’ve noted before.

Click on the white double arrows in front of the police box. This is where you end up:

Keep clicking! You can explore all of the console room, including getting close on the console

and walking around on the catwalk.

Alas, the rest of the TARDIS remains off limits. Probably can’t get a decent signal in the Google Street View camera car further in. Damn.

(Apparently this doesn’t work in the beta of the new Google Maps. If you’re using that, sign out and clear your cache to use the old version.)

Via Jalopnik.

Thanks to Ken, Carlie, and Dan for the heads-up.

(If you stumble across a cool Doctor Who thing, feel free to email me with a link.)

You can also get onto the ground floor by walking down the back stairs.

Funnily enough, in 2011, I stayed in a hotel close to Earl’s Court and we would go to the rest of London through Earl’s Court on a daily basis.

Well, except for the first day when we idiots decided we could walk to the Science museum from our hotel in Old Brompton Road. A “nice” 25 minute walk!
