London photo of the day: meat porn

meatporn

This is what the lovely piece of beef Bonnie and I picked up at the Christmas Eve butcher’s auction looked like once it had spent a minimal amount of time in the oven.

This is what it looked like five minutes before it found its way into our tummies:

MaryAnn, you know all the big movies that have just been released for Christmas and that you have recently been reveiwing, well i`ve seen literally all of them on YouTube already, thats right, all of them ! ! ! (with excellent picture and sound quality in most cases), if you visit that site called Reddit.com then go to the YouTube section you can see all the latest downloads that people have made on YouTube (that dont always neccessarily appear on the ordinary YouTube front page, as it were), some of the downloads disappear within a few hours obviously but if you`re quick you can watch the whole movie before it disappears, sometimes of course they dont notice and the download stays on YouTube for weeks, the latest movies remember, that are just in the cinema’s. I was just thinking MaryAnn, if you nipped over there on a regular basis you could see all the latest movies free of charge as well, it could end up saving you literally hundreds or perhaps even thousands of dollars every year on going to the movies and buying DVD`s ! ! !.

  • Sorry, but that looks kind of gross. Way too much pink. And blood. ugh. And I actually love a good piece of meat. Just a little pink, though.

This is a post about fresh meat; we don’t need to have spam as well.

  • It wasn’t *quite* so purple in reality. :->

    I was going to say…

I thought you might have done something interesting with beetroot to get that colour.

But who’d want to spoil the flavour of nice bit of beef like that with beetroot?

That looks fantastic! Love beef that still makes a noise!

It’s MaryAnn’s salute to the opening scene of Ravenous. :)

the kitchen light had an odd sort of glow to it, but a flash photo would have been too much glare. it was *very* rare. so rare, that when i went through US customs with the leftovers, i was told by the customs agriculture inspector that “raw meat” was not allowed to be brought into the US. unfortunately, he also wouldn’t let me bring in very rare beef either.

Only yesterday I was reading about how a well-regarded US ethnic flautist had his set of hand-made flutes smashed by US Customs on re-entry (these were instruments he had previously taken out of the country with him). So on balance, maybe you’re lucky that you weren’t sent to Guantanamo for trying to take rare meat into the US!
