female gazing at: Masaharu Fukuyama

Masaharu Fukuyama plays one of the dads in the wonderful Japanese flick Like Father, Like Son, and every time he appeared on the screen, I found myself catching my breath, he’s that gorgeous.

He seems to be mostly a TV actor in Japan, so I despair of ever seeing him on my movie screens again. This delicious nerdery appears to be from a show called Galileo, in which he plays “a genius physicist and university professor who solves unusual mysteries.” Sounds awesome.

He’s also a musician. Because of course he is:

So lovely.

And here’s a bonus extra photo, because it’s too adorable not to share. On the red carpet at Cannes last year with Like Father, Like Son, Fukuyama with Keita Ninomiya, who plays his son in the film:

(If you have a suggestion for someone we should female-gaze at, feel free to email me with a name or a link to a particular photo. But check to see whom we’ve already gazed at.)

Brilliant! Yes, he’s gorgeous. I’ve thought so since your review of LFLS…

  • Hmm… this dude does nothing for me. He has a Michael Jackson nose!

I watched Galileo and don’t remember thinking of him as being nearly this yummy. Nice pics.

I find it fascinating that the Japanese can produce these men with soft, feminine features and the look of eternal youth, that somehow add up to drop-dead sexy, please Mama can I keep him? Even animated ones.

  • There is some elfin about him, isn’t there?

I am in Japan right now and I can’t get enough of watching his live videos. He is simply gorgeous and I am glad I am not the only admiring him :P https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qd8BihLQkl8&index=7&list=PLFCBB7A75C835C03E

Also, as of last year, he was voted “The man a woman would most want to be hugged by” – first place. “The
man a woman would most want to marry” – first place. “The man most
admired by other men” – first place again, and for the third year

He is actually a better musician than actor. He sings, plays the guitar, is a song writer, a photographer, a professional cameraman (has even operated camera for the Olympics), actor (of course), radio host (he has his own show)..

true about the eternal youth thing.. I mean he is 46 and could still pass for 20s!

  • *swoon*

haha he is a dream boy, sigh. Let me watch “herrow” one more time!

And one last one.. the song is called 18, because that’s when he left his hometown Nagasaki and went to Tokyo and made a name for himself as Japan’s highest selling individual male artist.

  • I can’t understand the lyrics, but the tune is incredibly catchy.

I understand a bit of Japanese.. it’s a fun song about love, the chorus roughly translates to “when love takes off running, I don’t stop, I don’t want to lose to anyone..” (basically implying he chases after the love, he doesn’t want to let go) Translation is so hard! Anyway hope you enjoyed the tune. It was initially released some 20 years ago – I think !

I’m enjoying these music videos as well – thanks. I’m a sucker for old Japanese melodic pop tunes sung by baritones. Probably because of the end credits to Voltes V.
