Reader Bluejay suggested we gaze at Charles Dance. In honor of, erm, what happened on Game of Thrones this week, I think the time for that has arrived.
Dance is a handsome man now, and he was a hottie when he was younger:
(If you have a suggestion for someone we should female-gaze at, feel free to email me with a name or a link to a particular photo. But check to see whom we’ve already gazed at.)
Run — no, race — to rent/stream masterpiece Brit mini-series “The Jewel in the Crown,” a Charles Dance vehicle from years ago and some of the finest television ever produced. Cast also includes a young Geraldine James, for you GJ fans.
Thanks for using my suggestion! I first saw Charles Dance as the Phantom of the Opera in a TV movie, and was impressed by how much emotion he could communicate even from behind a full mask. He hasn’t disappointed me since.
I’m sure I saw that when it was first on PBS in the 80s, when I was just starting to develop as an Anglophile. I don’t recall much about it, however.
I saw him onstage as Coriolanus at the height of Jewel in the Crown fever. His first entrance was in billowy white shirt, tight black trousers and leather boots. You could hear the intake of breath as every woman in the audience fell in lust.
I am breathing in sharply just at the description. :->
My mum was a nurse in an old TV movie about Ian Fleming, with Dance playing the titular role. This would have been in like 1989? picture proof:
(that’s my mum on the left)
Dance playing Ian Fleming? Dance would have made a great Bond.
“If God was a villain, he would have been me.”
Exactly my thought when I saw the last picture! And then when I scrolled up too.
Thanks! I’m about halfway through and greatly enjoying it (though Dance hasn’t appeared yet). Geraldine James is great too.
I hadn’t been aware of Art Malik before this, but he’s quite a compelling actor as well!
Over the years, he has gotten cast as any number of villainous terrorists!
*sigh* Of course he has.
