support your local film critic
Reader Hank emailed me to say:
Just wanted to dash off a quick note expressing my regret for missing your review of “The Equalizer,” to which i feel you were far too kind. If I’d encountered it, I wouldn’t have gone, as that’s a few hours of my life I’ll never get back, and which thoroughly depressed me.
This is why we need film critics, folks… and why it’s really good to have a film critic you trust and with whom your share a sensibility or general cinematic tendencies.
(My review of The Equalizer is here, by the way. In case you missed it.)

I made an offhand comment in a review the other day about being broke, and reader Paul responded in a comment with surprise. I know he’s a regular around here, so I was surprised by his response, because I thought I’d been plenty obnoxious about begging for your support. But I guess I haven’t been obnoxious enough.
I’m broke. I’m scared — terrified, in fact. I don’t know how I’m going to survive. I know many of you are in the same boat, and I know that film criticism is a luxury. But if you are in a position to help, know that it will be immensely appreciated.
