Elsa Lancaster (with James Whale’s help) colonized my imagination in my youth, and I *always* imagine Mary Shelley as being in shadowy black-and-white.
Odd how we rarely hear about that volcanic eruption and yet there have been whole books and movies made about the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa. I suppose that’s yet more proof that anything can be forgotten by mainstream historians if you wait long enough — though a more charitable way to put it would be to say that historians can be human too.
