artisanal film reviews | by maryann johanson

I assume it’s because you won’t promise a favourable review in return for early access. (Not that it would be that blatant, of course.)
I’ve never been asked — or even heard a hint of a suggestion — to promise any sort of review in advance.
It may be just a selection thing. I’m sure the studio PR people can work out who writes a good review of almost everything, and make sure they get invited to special previews while the normal reviewers aren’t.
Maybe MaryAnn can develop a reputation as someone who writes provocative reviews and makes the movies sound controversial. That’s free publicity for the films.
Doesn’t she have that rep already?
