London photos: flying fish at Lumiere London

flyingfishlumiere1

Two weekends back, London played host to an absolutely marvelous festival of lights called Lumiere London. For four evenings, some of the most famous areas of Central London turned off their usual lighting and let special art installations incorporating light illuminate the night.

The flying fish on Regent Street were, far and away, my favorite installation of the event. Or maybe they were gas whales from the upper atmosphere of Jupiter? It really did look like they were swimming up the street.

Here they are in motion:

They changed colors, too:

There were more around the corner on Piccadilly!

Swimming and changing color. A different sub-species, perhaps?

One of their keepers. They came out of giant eggs!

These creatures were truly magical, and I’m so happy I got to see them in person.

I would have been standing there with my mouth open the whole time. Any flying bugs could have gone in and out.

  • Pretty much what I was doing.
