yes, that also seems to be a tradition in the movies since way back.
The odd thing is that that in itself seems to arise from an attempt to portray the hero as a new-for-the-era type of good guy: someone who doesn’t want to fight but will do so when given a good enough reason, as opposed to the people who are ready with their fists/guns/etc. all the time.
