Though it’s worth pointing out that it wasn’t “the French” doing this in the first place – it was some small-town mayors, and their own national-level review process has now said “no, this isn’t a public order issue so you can’t do it”. In the UK or the US getting the local bans struck down would take years, and lawyers. Funny how that side of things doesn’t make it into the news as much.
It’s a satire site. :-)
Yes, I know. But none of the normal news sources I’ve read has mentioned this – it’s all been “the French are doing this”, and either “hurrah” or “boo” depending on their politics.
Yeah, it’s a shame when we ignore the subtleties of the politics of other nations and just lump everyone together into one convenient group to criticize, like “the French.”
Or “Americans.” ;-)
