I agree with the frustration that the UN is still so very lacking in women holding leadership positions, but Wonder Woman was named an “honorary ambassador,” and those are always fictional characters. Living celebrities are named “good-will ambassadors” or “messengers of peace” (I know Emma Watson and Anne Hathaway are among the current ones, though I’d have to check who the rest are). The UN desperately needs to improve its gender parity in the upper ranks, but that’s a separate issue from “appointing” a fictional woman to a job for fictional people.
