The Biggest Fan (review)

High-school sophomore Debbie is the absolute biggest fan of an insipid boy band called Dream Street, and she's crushed when she gets taken by a scalper and misses the band's big show. But then, lo and behold, miracles and wonders, she wakes up the next morning to find the 17-year-old lead singer, Chris Trousdale, in her bed! But wait: icky teenage sexual dynamics aside, Debbie is fictional (she's played by Kaila Amariah), but Dream Street and Chris (played by, yes, Chris Trousdale) are real? Apparently, this cheap-looking and utterly moronic direct-to-video teen fantasy is really just a giant advertisement for a corporately manufactured boy band, which broke up in 2002 anyway. The mind boggles. For extra psychic pain, former sitcom stars Cindy Williams (Laverne & Shirley) and Richard Moll (Night Court) appear as Debbie's parents, and poor old Pat Morita (Karate Kid) is stuck in a horrendous ethnic stereotype present in the movie for no apparent reason at all.
