TiVo this! can't-miss geek movies on TV, 03.06-03.12

I scour the skeds so you don’t have to, and point out the best geek highlights of the week in some unexpected places: Turner Classic Movies and The Sundance Channel, which show films uncut and uninterrupted (and sometimes in letterbox). But ya gotta turn to The SciFi Channel once in a while, too, commercials and editing be damned -- there’s nothing like geeking out in front of the tube with built-in breaks for munchie refills and snark attacks.

(All times are Eastern. Times between midnight and 5:59am actually refer to the previous date. In other words, 2am Saturday really means the overnight twilight zone between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Links in movie titles go to my review.)

MONDAY 03.06

7:30am: Silent Running. Soylent green is-- no, wait, that’s the other one.

TUESDAY 03.07

12:00m: Monkey Business. Marx Brothers insanity.

4:00am: Topper Takes a Trip. Paranormality + screwball comedy.

THURSDAY 03.09

9:00pm: The Day After. Gather the kids and make some popcorn: it’s family viewing, 80s style.

FRIDAY 03.10

3:30am: Duck Soup. More shenanigans with Groucho et al.

SATURDAY 03.11

03:30am: Darkman II: The Return of Durant. Alas, Sam Raimi and Liam Neeson are nowhere in sight, but it does have that guy from The Mummy.

2:00pm: Fahrenheit 451. A society of functional illiterates. Total fantasy, of course.

4:00pm: Jason and the Argonauts. Oh man, do I love that army of skeletons...

9:00pm: Minotaur. A Sci Fi Pictures Original. You know what that means: crap-tastic!

SUNDAY 03.12

3:30pm: Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave. Nick Park’s hilarious Oscar-winning animated short.

11:00am: Tron. Admit it: it blew your little 11-year-old mind, didn’t it?
