TiVo this! can't-miss geek movies on TV, 03.27-04.02

I scour the skeds so you don’t have to, and point out the best geek highlights of the week in some unexpected places: Turner Classic Movies and The Sundance Channel, which show films uncut and uninterrupted (and sometimes in letterbox). But ya gotta turn to The SciFi Channel once in a while, too, commercials and editing be damned -- there’s nothing like geeking out in front of the tube with built-in breaks for munchie refills and snark attacks.

(All times are Eastern. Times between midnight and 5:59am actually refer to the previous date. In other words, 2am Saturday really means the overnight twilight zone between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Links in movie titles go to my review.)

WEDNESDAY 03.29

2:30pm: Duel. Steven Spielberg keeps on truckin’.

THURSDAY 03.30

Two swashbuckling classics:

6:00am: The Three Musketeers. From 1935.

2:30pm: King Solomon’s Mines. 1950.

1:45pm: Silent Running. Environ-SF from the 70s, from director Douglas Trumbull.

11:00pm: The 13th Warrior. Vasty underappreciated John McTiernan historical action fantasy. With Antonio Banderas as Rudolph Valentino.

SATURDAY 04.01

8:00pm: Duck Soup. The Marx Brothers send up war. Any resemblance to presidents living or dead is purely hilarious.

12mid: Dog Soldiers. Kick-ass British movie about werewolves attacking grunts.

SUNDAY 04.02

12noon: Monkey Business. Howard Hawks directs Cary Grant, Ginger Rogers, and Marilyn Monroe in the 1952 science-run-amuck comedy.

You liked "Dog Soldiers"? I know you saw "R-Point", so go see "Dead Birds".
