TiVo this! can't-miss geek movies on TV, 04.03-04.09

I scour the skeds so you don’t have to, and point out the best geek highlights of the week in some unexpected places: Turner Classic Movies and The Sundance Channel, which show films uncut and uninterrupted (and sometimes in letterbox). But ya gotta turn to The SciFi Channel once in a while, too, commercials and editing be damned -- there’s nothing like geeking out in front of the tube with built-in breaks for munchie refills and snark attacks.

(All times are Eastern. Times between midnight and 5:59am actually refer to the previous date. In other words, 2am Saturday really means the overnight twilight zone between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Links in movie titles go to my review.)

MONDAY 04.03

12:00m: Atomic Train. Unbelievably schlocky TV miniseries starring Rob Lowe and Kristin Davis. You get to see Denver nuked.

TUESDAY 04.04

4:00pm: Mark of the Vampire. Classic 1935 Tod Browning horror flick with Bela Lugois and Lionel Barrymore(!).

8:00pm: The Prisoner of Zenda. Swashbuckling coolness from 1937 with Ronald Colman and Douglas Fairbanks.

7:00pm: Aftershock: Earthquake in New York. Unbelievably schlocky TV miniseries. You get to Vancouver standing in badly for New York get earthquaked.

WEDNESDAY 04.05

10:00pm: The Invisible Ray. More little-seen Bela Lugosi genre stuff about a freaky asteroid wreaking havoc. With Boris Karloff!

6:30pm: The Andromeda Strain. Alien virus. Stock up on Tamiflu.

FRIDAY 04.07

8:00pm: Westworld. It was after the robot holocaust...

10:00pm: Forbidden Planet. Needs no introduction.

12:00m: The Invisible Boy. 1957 flick about a boy and his robot.

12:00m: Orgazmo. From Trey Parker, before he went to South Park.
