pile ‘o dvds gets taller: ‘Brisco County,’ ‘Strangers with Candy,’ moreWhat have I got in my waiting-to-be-watched stack of DVDs? Way too much. New to the pile: One of my readers, Patrick, suggested that I review Superman III (buy at Amazon) and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (buy at Amazon) to coincide with Superman Returns -- and to wrap up the Superman saga; I’ve already covered Superman: The Movie and Superman II -- so I grabbed those from Netflix and hope to get to those this week. There’s a bunch of stuff that’ll be released in July that I’ve snagged advanced copies of. I’m already enjoying the box set The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.: The Complete Series (buy at Amazon) and will definitely have lots to say about that one. There’s also the BBC show Murder in Suburbia: Series 1 (buy at Amazon), the miniseries Blackbeard (buy at Amazon), and the paintball mockumentary Blackballed (buy at Amazon), starring The Daily Show’s Rob Corddry. I’m looking forward to Strangers with Candy: The Complete Series (buy at Amazon) and I think I can get to that when I review the new SwC movie, which opens this week. I’ve got a gay SF flick, Hard Pill (buy at Amazon), that I’m gonna mashup with another DVD and tell you about both of ‘em soon. Mouth to Mouth (official site) is a little indie I’m looking forward to -- it stars Hard Candy’s Ellen Page, and she was beyond terrific in that. The cable network TNT has a miniseries based on Stephen King’s Nightmares & Dreamscapes (official site) debuting in July, and I’ve got the whole waiting here for me. Also from TNT: The Ron Clark Story (official site), starring Matthew Perry in yet another attempt to be taken seriously. That’ll air in August on TNT. |
