TiVo this! can't-miss geek movies on TV, 06.12-06.18

I scour the skeds so you don’t have to, and point out the best geek highlights of the week in some unexpected places: Turner Classic Movies and The Sundance Channel, which show films uncut and uninterrupted (and sometimes in letterbox). But ya gotta turn to The SciFi Channel once in a while, too, commercials and editing be damned -- there’s nothing like geeking out in front of the tube with built-in breaks for munchie refills and snark attacks.

(All times are Eastern. Times between midnight and 5:59am actually refer to the previous date. In other words, 2am Saturday really means the overnight twilight zone between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Links in movie titles go to my review.)

MONDAY 06.12

7:00PM: The Poseidon Adventure. Made-for-TV Robert Halmi miniseries from last year starring Peter Weller, Rutger Hauer, Steve Guttenberg, and, in the role of the rogue wave, a terrorist bomb.

11:00PM: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Another Robert Halmi TV dish, with Richard Crenna and Ben Cross.

TUESDAY 06.13

4:15PM: Dark Water. J-horro from Hideo Nakata; basis for the Jennifer Connolly movie.

5:30PM: Stargate. Mostly cool as the basis of the awesome TV show.

WEDNESDAY 06.14

4:30AM: Sinbad the Sailor. From 1947, with Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and Maureen O’Hara. Woo-hoo!

9:30PM: Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers. The best of Nick Park’s claymation shorts about the cheese-loving Englishmen and his dog, who’s smarter than he is. Here, they take on jewel thief Feathers McGraw, a penguin master of disguise.

6:00PM: The Day After. Kansas gets nuked.

THURSDAY 06.15

6:30AM: The Ghost Breakers. Bob Hope and Paulette Goddard are on the run from ghosts and the mob in this 1940 comedy.

9:30PM: Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave. Wallace, Gromit, and sheep.

FRIDAY 06.16

11:30AM: The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. Contains instructions on what to do when you think your piano tutor is out to take over the world.

SATURDAY 06.17

9:30PM: Wallace & Gromit: A Grand Day Out. The one that started it all: the lads journey to the moon on an exciting cheese adventure.

SUNDAY 06.18

8:00PM: Jason and the Argonauts. With future Avengers chick Honor Blackman.

2:00AM: Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man. Classic stuff.

3:30AM: Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy. More classic stuff.

5:00AM: Sh! The Octopus. A giant sea creature and wacky detectives. What’s not to like? From 1937.

Bad movie marathon. What else can you expect from Sci Fi?

11:00AM: Alien Apocalypse. Bruce Campbell is starting to lose it...

1:00PM: Sabretooth. “Stars” Lost’s Josh “Sawyer” Holloway in the role he’d probably like us to forget.

9:00PM: SS Doomtrooper. With Corin Nemec and -- swear to the gods of 80s teen crap -- a character named “Parker Lewis.”

1:00AM: Terminal Invasion. More Bruce Campbell badness.
