TiVo this! can't-miss geek movies on TV, 08.14-08.20

I scour the skeds so you don’t have to, and point out the best geek highlights of the week in some unexpected places: Turner Classic Movies and The Sundance Channel, which show films uncut and uninterrupted (and sometimes in letterbox). But ya gotta turn to The SciFi Channel once in a while, too, commercials and editing be damned -- there’s nothing like geeking out in front of the tube with built-in breaks for munchie refills and snark attacks.

(All times are Eastern. Times between midnight and 5:59am actually refer to the previous date. In other words, 2am Saturday really means the overnight twilight zone between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Links in movie titles go to my review.)

TUESDAY 08.15

4:00AM: Heathers. Documentary about the nightmare of high school.

WEDNESDAY 08.16

6:00AM: From the Earth to the Moon. 1958 adaptation of Jules Verne, starring Joseph Cotten and George Sanders.

6:15PM: Soylent Green. Still made from human corpses using Mom’s old-fashioned recipe.

FRIDAY 08.18

All-day monster marathon! Don’t see Snakes on a Plane, see black-and-white horror movies starring Bela Lugosi instead!

12:00n: Spooks Run Wild (1941)
3:45PM: Zombies on Broadway (1945)
6:15PM: You’ll Find Out (1940; haunted-mansion shenanigans)

9:00PM: Cabin Fever. Low-budget gorefest. Lots of melted flesh and stuff.

3:00AM: Monkey Shines: An Experiment in Fear. I dunno what it’s about, but I love the title.
