The Adventures of Chico and Guapo: The Complete First Season (review)

Yup, it’s another one of those cartoon shows that’s strictly for grownups. You’ll want to keep the kids away from the Beavis-and-Butthead-esque antics of sweet but dumb best friends Chico and Guapo, who “work” at a recording studio but mostly spend their time watching TV or attempting to kill themselves for the worker’s comp they imagine they’ll receive if they deliberately electrocute themselves. (See, the kids don’t need any crazy ideas put in their heads.) Disc 1 contains eight episodes of silly -- and often insurgent -- antics concerning what passes for contemporary entertainment and modern relationships; transsexual masseuses make an appearance, as does “America’s Most Talented Fetus.” Disc 2 is all bonus: 16 shorts from The Orlando Jones Show and other early material that traces the show’s beginning and the evolution of the characters. Frantic and frequently fierce under its laid-back facade, this is some quality funny business.
