TiVo this! can't-miss geek movies on TV, 09.04-09.10

I scour the skeds so you don’t have to, and point out the best geek highlights of the week in some unexpected places: Turner Classic Movies and The Sundance Channel, which show films uncut and uninterrupted (and sometimes in letterbox). But ya gotta turn to The SciFi Channel once in a while, too, commercials and editing be damned -- there’s nothing like geeking out in front of the tube with built-in breaks for munchie refills and snark attacks.

(All times are Eastern. Times between midnight and 5:59am actually refer to the previous date. In other words, 2am Saturday really means the overnight twilight zone between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Links in movie titles go to my review.)

MONDAY 09.04

8:00PM: Sullivan's Travels. Not so much geeky, but notable as the inspiration for the totally geeky O Brother Where Art Thou?

4:15AM: The Phantom of the Opera. The spooky 1925 silent version.

TUESDAY 09.05

8:00PM: The Seventh Seal. Playing chess with Death.

11:30PM: The White Sheik. Fellini flick about a woman in love with a comic strip character. Weird.

10:00PM: Wilbur (Wants to Kill Himself). Could be the cult successor to Harold and Maude.

WEDNESDAY 09.06

Trio of comic ghost stories from the prewar screwball era:

9:00AM: Topper
10:45AM: Topper Takes a Trip
12:15PM: Topper Returns

1:45PM: One Million B.C. Caveman drama.

2:30PM: Very Annie Mary. Hilarious and touching flick about that rarest of creatures, a genuine girl geek.

11:00PM: 12 Monkeys. Brad Pitt is at his crazy best in Terry Gilliam’s new classic time-travel flick.

THURSDAY 09.07

12:00m: Spaceballs. May the Schwartz be with you.

Abbott and Costello versus ghosts and monsters:

2:00AM: The Time of Their Lives
3:30AM: Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein

FRIDAY 09.08

11:30AM: Fail Safe. We all shoulda been dead in the 1960s from nuclear fallout, shouldn’t we?

8:00PM: Harold and Maude. Speaking of cult favorites about would-be suicides...

SATURDAY 09.09

7:30PM: Dracula: Pages From a Virgin’s Diary. Can’t go wrong with a vampire movie.

It’s a marathon of Bigfoot flicks! Monkey fun for all!

7:00PM: Sasquatch
9:00PM: Sasquatch Mountain
11:00PM: Sasquatch Hunters

SUNDAY 09.10

12:30PM: It Came From Outer Space. It always does, doesn’t it?

12:00n: Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. Makes crime fun!
