my master plan for the next couple of years: Doctor Who, Bruce Campbell books
So, why did I wait so long to post my review of The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.: The Complete Series, when it was waaay back last summer when I was drooling over Bruce Campbell, what with the release of this long-awaited set as well as his series Jack of All Trades? Well, it was because I imagined I was going to write a much longer review, maybe even an episode-by-episode kind of thing.
That didn’t happen, but Bruce is still on my radar: I’m planning on writing The Totally Geeky Guide to Bruce Campbell for publication, probably, in 2008. In that, I’ll delve into just why it is that we geeks love Bruce so much, and explore all his work that’s available on DVD (including a more in-depth look at Brisco). And even some that isn’t, like his new Old Spice TV commercial, which is a riot:
But before that, I’m gonna write The Totally Geeky Guide to Doctor Who: The Christopher Eccleston Years. I’ll use the DW blogging I began on Geek Philosophy as a jumping-off point for the book (which I will finish as the first step in sketching out the book). I’d like to go to either Comic Con in San Diego or NASFIC in St. Louis this summer, and I’d like to have the book ready for whichever convention I go to. That’s a tight schedule I’m putting myself on, but it’s the only way I’ll ever get anything done. So the plan is for a summer 2007 publication.
After that I’ll either jump into the Bruce Campbell book or, if it seems to make more sense, do a Totally Geeky Guide to Doctor Who: The First David Tennant Series. (I’ve just posted my reaction to those episodes, just out on DVD.)
I’m plunging on with the books because The Totally Geeky Guide to The Princess Bride continues to do pretty well both on Amazon and in direct sales at conventions. It’s never gonna make me rich, but it’s a whole new realm in which I can discover new ways to procrastinate and generally make myself crazy.

MaryAnn, a humble request. When you write your Bruce Campbell book, please don't give short shrift to his work on Xena and Hercules. (Don't just give a cursory mention of it over the span of two paragraphs.) A lot of Bruce fans sort of marginalize that work, I would assume because they find those shows uncool. But seriously, some of his most fun, charismatic and wonderfully-campy acting can be found in his Autolycus character.
