‘Die Hard’ on a bus
I laughed out loud the first time I saw this bus ad recently. And as most of the dissenters of my review of Knocked Up are probably aware, there’s not a lot that makes me laugh out loud.
Yes, I am sooo looking forward to Live Free or Die Hard. Bruce Willis is my second favorite Bruce (after Bruce Campbell, of course).

The "John 6:27" bit is pretty funny, too. The actual Bible verse for that (King James Version) is:
Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
Roughly translated, I think that means:
Don't buy hamburger; buy steak, because you can age it and it tastes better. Make sure you buy it from Anderson the butcher, because he's USDA certified.

I noticed the John 6:27 biblical connection too. I'm sure the advertisers knew what they were doing when they did this.
I know it's a joke about the "don't buy hamburger" interpretation and it's pretty funny... but I don't think Jesus was thinking about Anderson the butcher when he said this. I think he's talking about, not living our life chasing after possessions that ultimately never truly satisfy the deep longings of our soul. But seek after the eternal life which Christ has to give which brings true fulfilment whether we are rich or poor, whether we have the latest tech or live on a farm... and this eternal life living in us, will (among other things) keep us from blowing our top if Anderson the butcher has already left for the night by the time we get to his shop and we were REALLY craving a pastrami on Rye! :-)

Well said, Allen.
I used the name "Anderson" in my re-imagining of that verse because Anderson literally means "son of man" ("andros" is Greek for "man")... it was symbolic of his status as the new savior that Neo's name in The Matrix was "Mr. Anderson", or "Mr. Son of Man".
I don't know that I am as inclined to give the advertising company as much credit for insight as I am the Wachowski Brothers, but it's still funny. ;-) They just went with that particular chapter and verse because it's the release date for the movie.

I like the way you think Clayj. I did think that perhaps the advertisers didn't know... or perhaps they did. As Agent Smith said to the Oracle, "Maybe you knew I was going to do that. Maybe you didn't." Mmmm... I wanted to give them credit, trying to find a reason why they would do such a thing. I thought maybe there is some correlation in the movie that will reference the scripture. Kind of like the whole Austin 3:16 thing that went with wrestling. Or maybe not.
I'm not sure how we got from Die Hard to the Matrix, but truly the Wachowski brothers put in more thought on their biblical parallels. Either way I do hope to see the latest Die Hard movie... I saw a preview for it when I went to see Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer during opening weekend. The trailer was full of special effects with no discernable plot besides a lot of things blowing up. Hopefully there is depth to it as well. In the mean time I'll review my Greek. Have you ever looked at the difference between the terms Neo and Kaino?

Anderson also means "Son of Anders". As in if your fathers name was Anders Jonson, your last name would be Anderson.

Right, but the root of "Anders" or "Andrew" is andros, which is Greek for "of a man". So technically, Neo Anderson would translate as "new son of man", reflecting his status as the savior of humanity.
I'm a "-son" myself, so I know all about the Norse patronymic system... my granddad was only the second generation of his family where the surname had finally "stuck" and they stopped changing names to reflect what their fathers were named.
You want weird, go to Iceland... they still use the "-son" and "-dóttir" system there. The phone books are listed by given (Christian) name, not surname, since surnames are pretty much useless for knowing what family you happen to belong to.
