new on DVD: ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force,’ ‘The Lookout,’ ‘Vacancy,’ ‘Wild Hogs,’ ‘Fracture’
See it:
• Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters [buy it]. From my review:
I am not among the deeply initiated. But I feel the goodness and the strangeness and the unknowableness of it. I get it, this weird stream-of-consciousness riffing on pop culture and the absurdities of modern life and the wondrousness of chemically laden supposed food.

• The Lookout [buy it]. From my review:
Joseph Gordon-Levitt... has emerged as one of the more captivating young actors of the moment, and he makes Chris an unforgettable morass of exasperation, stick-to-it-iveness, and unlikely charm.... Here, in his highest-profile performance as an adult -- this is the first wide release he’s appeared in recently -- he is poised to blow away thinking moviegoers with his hugely appealing combination of Keanu Reeves’ quirky good looks, Tobey Maguire’s engaging mopiness, and a Johnny Depp-esque hunger for offbeat, demanding roles. Gordon-Levitt looks like the next big thing who actually deserves to be big, and I can’t wait to see where he goes from here.
• Vacancy [buy it]. A Hitchcockian horror movie for grownups, not horny teens...
Skip it:
• Wild Hogs [buy it]. From my review:
Are so many American men so oppressed by the “horrors” of modern life -- high cholesterol, uppity wives, smartass children, cell phones, boring jobs, the general dead-eyed awfulness of suburbia -- that they need a stupid movie like this one to tell them that if they don’t like their lives they should do something about it?
• Fracture [buy it]. Even the fantastic Ryan Gosling can’t make up for Anthony Hopkins’ phoning in of a lazy Hannibal Lecter impersonation.
