movie-ku #1I’ve been brainstorming for ideas for new content for FlickFilosopher.com, particularly something to replace the daily 10-year-retrospective postings that have supplied regular content (apart from reviews, of course) for most the last year. One of the ideas that struck me was to write a daily haiku about The Movies, and that’s what I’m gonna do starting today and for the next 364 days. Or at least that’s the plan. It’s a little scary, the thought of having to come up with a haiku every day, but that’s good: scary is good. It means my brain will get some different exercise, will get stretched in a new direction. And at the end of a year, I’ll have enough movie haikus -- or movie-kus, as I’m calling them -- to fill a small book. And so, movie-ku #1: Flickering shadows Disqus commentsblog comments powered by Disqus |

I have got another idea for you, should it prove to be too difficult to come up with a movie-ku everyday: why don't you revisit films and tell us your thoughts now that they have been around for a couple of years? I for one would love to know what you think of Lord of the Rings now we can see it in one, twelve hour or so long rush (extended version). Is it better than it was in the theaters? I think so, but what do you think?

Good idea, but very time intensive, rewatching films. I'll keep it in mind, though.

Neat idea! If you ever get blocked, you might consider writing each haiku about a specific movie, instead of just the medium in general. You might even have a contest to let people guess which movie you are haikuing about.

I like that idea, Rob! I may just steal it.

Hell, I kind of thought that was what we were doing with this one. I was trying to figure out what the hell movie it was from until I saw that today's obviously wasn't about a specific movie.
Building on what TheGaucho said, if you did something like that, it could be on movies you're just re-watching naturally, not just ones that you intentionally re-watch to write an article. That could be really interesting.

Nope, this one is just about movies in general, about how the "lie" of what's on the screen -- just images and illusions -- can often tell the truth about life, the universe, and everything.
I wish I had more time to rewatch movies. I hardly ever get the chance anymore.
