bias alert!: still enthralled by ‘Doctor Who,’ psyched for the new Coen Brothers, dreadin’ the new Robert Zemeckis, more

YES!
current obsession: doctor who
current boyfriend: david tennant’s doctor
i'm psyched: no country for old men
NO!
current enemy: ben stiller, for whoring himself out again as the heartbreak kid
i'm dreading: beowulf

I thought Torchwood would take over the chore of keeping me completely infatuated once Doctor Who ended (till Christmas... only till Christmas), but that doesn’t seem to be happening. It’s all very pathetic.

No Country for Old Men is, of course, the newest film from the Coen Brothers, who are totally worshippable, so I fully expect this movie to be amazing. And I’ve been dreading Beowulf since I wrote about it a while back and discovered exactly what kind of movie it’s gonna be: another of Robert Zemeckis’s terrifying plasticine CGI monstrosities. *shudder*

According to the rumour mills in the UK, David is single again...

:)

I would only be happier if he had an upcomming holiday to Canada planned.

Links, please!

thanks. i think.

He broke up with her on the phone? What a cad.

"He broke up with her on the phone? What a cad."

now, now... let's not necessarily jump into that attitude. in this day of high technology and everyone being tuned, plugged, and jacked-in, many a long-distance relationship takes place over the VIOP and email... it didn't say he left a *voice message* after all. perhaps committments or scheduling conflicts made it impossible for him to fly to LA, as hers made it impossible for her to fly to... wherever he may be.

and his mom died. come on.

Question, M-A: Are there any films you were psyched for that you ended up hating or any films you were dreading that turned out to be pretty good? Just curious. You seem to be able to predict your responses to given material fairly well, and I was wondering if there were any specific examples where the Bias Alert turned out to be wrong.

Yup: I was both psyched for and dreading *Pirates of the Caribbean* and *The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy* -- the first turned out to be fantastic, and second awful. I was dreading *Talladega Nights* and ended up loving it. I was psyched for *Must Love Dogs,* and that was pretty bad. I was pyched for *Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory* and that was awful.

It doesn't happen all the time, but that's not the whole list.

Three days after his mother's death and two days before the funeral, DT was at the Doctor Who set filming. So I doubt he gets time off in order to break up in person.

Ah, jeez, poor Tennant. Honestly. Work can be a distraction when you're grieving -- I know it has been for me. Perhaps it was for him, too.

Still, it seems callous to break up by phone -- assuming, of course, we can even believe this gossip. It's not about needing time off to break up -- it's about being decent to the person you've supposed been in love with. Although, on the other hand, there's probably an argument to be made that cutting someone loose as soon as you know your heart's not in the relationship is about being decent.

Aww, I give up.
