Very cool!

But does this mean that Doctor Who debuted exactly one day after the deaths of John F. Kennedy and Brave New World author Aldous Huxley?

Verity Lambert, Doctor Who's first producer, passed away yesterday.

Sad news on Lambert...

Yes, one day after JFK was killed, *Doctor Who* debuted...

Yes (in fact they were filming the second story (the first with the daleks) when news came through of the death of JFK.

The first episode was repeated the following week, because they thought people wouldn't have watched it with the terrible news.

Forgot to mention, Chronicles of Narnia author C.S. Lewis also died on 11/22/1963. Talk about your big "deaths come in threes" day...

Clayj: yes. The first broadcast was actually delayed because of the news of the JFK assassination. And there's a tie-in Dr Who novel entitled _Who Killed Kennedy_ that was inspired by that coincidence of events.

Also: that video ought to mention Delia Derbyshire, who created the original theme in 1963 at the BBC Radiophonic workshop.

The BBC website has a DYI version using the original electronic sounds (it also credits Derbyshire and others):

Sad news about Verity Lambert; she did get to see the Doctor successfully recreated for a new century, and her early efforts appreciated.

Here's one about the creation of the 1980s version of the theme.
