I think many people need to be reminded that this is not merely meant to be a day for sleeping in and then going shopping. I would guess that many people have no clue who MLK was or why he was so important.
I'm not suggesting that's the case with you, misterb. Though perhaps your employer could use the reminder...

What I noticed on Martin Luther King Day:
Bankers not going to work. NBA teams playing games in the middle of the day, rather than at night. A clip of Dennis Miller saying he thought it was amusing that racists would happily take the day off, even though they were pissed at the reason for it. A rerun of the classic The Return of the King episode of The Boondocks where Dr. King does not die, but falls into a 40 year coma and then wakes up to a world which is nothing like he hoped it would be.
