opening wide today: ‘Fool’s Gold,’ ‘Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins,’ ‘Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show’

Fool’s Gold
Matthew “I’m Not Wearing My Shirt” McConaughey and Kate “Did You Know Goldie Hawn Is My Mom?” Hudson are together again, because, apparently, the public demand for their return has been deafening. This time, they’re hunting treasure in the tropics and get murdered by pirates. No, that last bit’s only in my fantasy version. (my review)

Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins
Finally, for everyone who has longed for the unbelievably racist minstrel shows of the vaudeville era, and has somehow missed his last three dozen movies, comes Martin Lawrence shucking and jiving his way through a trip home to the South to visit his parents. Martin Luther King Jr. wept. (my review)

Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show
Part comedy concert film and part documentary on what it takes to be a working stand-up comic today, this flick takes us on the road with Vince Vaughn and the heartland-of-America comedy tour he produced and hosted. It’s hilarious and actually kinda touching too. (my review)
