Well, you have a more sophisticated group of commenters here, MaryAnn. ;-)

Sophisticated... I like that.
Sounds a hell of a lot better than nerd, dork, wonk, dweeb... [trails off into embarrassed silence] :)

Hey, just because I know what the Bekenstein bound is and how long it'll be before proton decay eliminates the last of the baryonic matter in the Universe does not make me a nerd.
I am a geek, and proud of it. (And all those ladies who pass me by for the outlaw biker dudes are missing out. Pppppbtbtbtbt!)

Yeah, I meant it as a compliment, of course. Don't you guys know me well enough by now to realize that?

Oh I knew you were complimentary, MaryAnn. I for one love how you've transformed the term "geek" into a badge of honor.
It's just that some of us (i.e., me) are still coming to terms with our geekiness. Years of conditioning are hard to overcome. I'm also getting used to typing in snarky. Damn lack of nonverbal signals...
I have to leave now. I have a hot date with a girl who was so turned on by my intellect she dumped a rebel biker dude for me. (PS-- don't tell my wife)
