my week at the movies: ‘X-Files,’ ‘Brideshead Revisited,’ ‘Hamlet 2’

Shhhh! It’s totally secret, the screening of -- shhhhh! -- The X-Files: I Want to Believe [opens wide July 25] I’ll attend this week. Fox is terrified of spoilers getting out, but I’ve heard this tidbit, and I’m not afraid to spoil it: Cancer Man is Luke’s father. And Rosebud is a jet-powered sled reverse-enigineered from a crashed alien spaceship.

I’ve never seen the 1981 TV miniseries of Evelyn Waugh’s novel, so I’ll have to jump cold into the new theatrical adaptation of Brideshead Revisited [opens limited July 25]. It’s starring Emma Thompson, and she’s always fun to watch, at least...

After that, I’m limiting myself this week to one more: Hamlet 2 [opens limited August 22, wide August 27], in which Steve Coogan stars as a high school drama teacher who tries to motivate his students by writing a politically incorrect sequel to the somewhat famous play about the crazy prince. And I have to limit myself so I can catch up on my own Hamlet watching, which is behind schedule.

CancerMan is Luke's father?! Pfft. Learned that in Season 7.

I totally want to see the X-Files movie. I will make an exception for this movie.

What kind of exception?
