Sacha Baron Cohen tweaks middle-America homophobes
I guess it’s Sacha Baron Cohen day today here. It wasn't a plan or anything.
The Smoking Gun is reporting on a stunt Cohen pulled in Arkansas recently, part of his Borat-esque punking on America, this time for his upcoming Bruno movie.
Lured by $1 beer and the prospect of "hot chicks" and "hardcore fights," thousands of Arkansans were duped last month into appearing as extras in comedian Sacha Baron Cohen's latest staged mayhem. Cohen and his confederates organized cage fighting programs on consecutive days in Texarkana and Fort Smith. Both cards ended with two male grapplers (one was identified as "Straight Dave" and wore camouflage) tearing each other's clothes off and, while in underwear, kissing down their opponent's chest. This man-on-man action triggered Fort Smith fans to throw chairs and beer at the ring, according to one cop present at the city's Convention Center.
The whole report is awesome in its embarrassing, all-American hideousness.

And the folks who actually attended this thing, who paid cash money to see something called “Red, White and Blood”? They’re pissed. They’re okay with being seen as hicks, as long as no one thinks they’re homogay. Idiots.
Sorry, but if you’re drawn in by this:

you deserve to be made fun of.
I can’t wait to see the movie.

I found the reader responses more interesting than the article itself.
According to people that were actually there, Cohen had stooges in the audience stage the fights that broke out. The genuine audience members actually found the whole thing rather lame, most of them caught on to it being a practical joke long before the reveal, and they were actually angry about being misled, not because they were homophobic.
What did Cohen prove, anyway? If you offer cheap beer, bikini babes, and sports, rowdy types will show up and get drunk. Well, duh.

@bitchen frizzly - I'd call anything read on those forums a little suspect. Hilarious, but suspect. My favorite:
Borat was the same guy that was on the TV show on ABC? In the early 90's with the "Dance of Joy". I forget the name of the show, but his character was Balki Bartechemouse[sic]?
