trailer break: ‘W.’ teaserTake a break from work: watch a movie trailer... Wow. Oliver Stone is a nut, but he’s a nut I sympathize with -- I dunno whether to believe a word of his JFK, but, as a movie, it’s genius. Is that what we’re in for here? No, scratch that: there is no doubt that George W. Bush, our Dear Leader, was a drunk and a cad and completely fucking useless before he became President of the United States, and worse after, but will Stone actually tell that story? Surely, that “Wonderful World” song in the trailer is ironic, right? Oh, Jesus Christ, right? Holy crap, is that Ioan Gruffudd as Tony Blair? Neat. I’ve been Ioan’s champion from way back, and I’m also madly in love with Michael Sheen as Tony Blair, but still: nice. W. opens limited October 17. Oh, please let this movie be a straight politically themed comedy. I'd hate to think this movie will be played out as a straight drama.
Oliver Stone has really been slumming it this decade with "Alexander" (all 5 billion cuts of the film) and "World Trade Center" (ugh, just, ugh).
I want the piss-and-vinegar "Born on the Fourth of July"/"JFK" Oliver Stone back.

Stone's "Nixon" was about a decent guy who couldn't overcome his own pathetic self-loathing and planted the seeds of his own destruction. I have a feeling that "W." will be about a well-meaning idiot in way over his head. That would be funny. It would be more funny if it weren't based on a true story.
But if weren't based on a true story, you'd never believe it.

Might be to soon to say but, this could to be Brolin's first Oscar winning role. I can't see this movie being 100% comedy, Stone doesn't really do comedy, unless your twisted enough to find "Natural Born Killers" to be funny.
