dream cast: hypothetical ‘A-Team’ movie

It’s Thursday, so it’s time to remake an 80s classic TV show or movie with an all-new cast. This week: The A-Team, the 1983-7 NBC action series about a group of Vietnam vets who help out folk in trouble. Rumor has it that a movie is already in the works, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun with it.

(This week’s Dream Cast topic was suggested by Ken in the comments of last week’s Dream Cast; if you need help, and you can find me-- I mean, if you have a suggestion for an 80s TV show or movie we should play with, lemme know.)

The original cast featured:

Col. John “Hannibal” Smith: George Peppard
Capt. H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock: Dwight Schultz
Sgt. Bosco “B.A.” Baracus: Mr. T
Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck: Dirk Benedict

Here’s my dream cast for the remake:

Col. John “Hannibal” Smith: Richard Dean Anderson
Capt. H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock: Brad Pitt
Sgt. Bosco “B.A.” Baracus: Mos Def
Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck: John Barrowman

I guess we’d have to make our new A-Team vets of the first Gulf War, or even the current one.

Who’s in your dream cast?

My cast:

Hannibal: George Clooney
Face: Brad Pitt
B.A. Baracus: Samuel Jackson
Howling Mad Murdock: Jim Carrey (but I am intrigued by your suggestion for Pitt in this role)

Although I do like the idea of bringing back the original cast (obviously someone would have to step in for Peppard) with the idea that they're still on the run 25 years later. Better yet, make an A-Team vs. McGyuver movie, and you can have your Richard Dean Anderson too.

I think it would be fun to cast Katee Sackhoff in the role of Face. Ya know, just because…

Col. John “Hannibal” Smith: Denzel Washington
Capt. H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock: Jim Carrey
Sgt. Bosco “B.A.” Baracus: Chiwetel Ejiofor
Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck: Don Cheadle

I'm gonna go with an Armageddon cast here.

Hannibal: Bruce Willis
Murdock: Steve Buscemi
B.A.: Michael Clarke Duncan
Face: Owen Wilson

Personally, I don't mind who they cast for the film but I would say that I'd rather they cast actors that have good chemistry together rather than casting specifically for each character. I'd rather see a new 'fresh' team than people trying to emulate what's been before.

And since modern warfare utilises IT, are we going to have the 'tech' guy? Can this fit into one of the existing characters (strangely enough, I'm thinking Face. He's the only one that never really had a speciality in the military and if you play up the scammer angle, surely he'd be up on the latest e-scams?) or do we give them a fifth member?

Do we recast the GMC van?

Go for it.

Actually, I'm in the same boat I was in with the DeLorean - keep the original. Can't think of a newer ride that could take its place...

@bill

Col. John “Hannibal” Smith: Denzel Washington
Capt. H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock: Jim Carrey
Sgt. Bosco “B.A.” Baracus: Chiwetel Ejiofor
Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck: Don Cheadle

This is brilliance!

I'd actually pay to see this movie. ESPECIALLY if Jim Carrey's delusional/manic behavior includes him thinking he's one of the "brothers".

For extra laughs you might even be able to cast most of the cast of "In Living Color" as former members of their old platoon.

I'm thinking that the backstory for this version is that the A-Team had an unfortunate run-in with Blackwater early in the 2000s, which resulted in their status as wanted men.

Dream A-Team:

Hannibal: Tommy Lee Jones
Murdock: Christina Ricci
B.A.: Ving Rhames
Face: David Duchovny (although I dread they will cast one of the Jonas brothers instead :shudder:)
The Van: sorry but guys gotta update it to the 21st century... maybe a Dodge Durango...

I dunno, PaulW. A Durango? I think it's gotta be van. Seriously, the A-Team rolls in a van. I'm not sure I'm comfortable messin' with that. Maybe a Suburban. Maybe.

how about an abstract expressionist a-team

hannibal: peter weller
murdoch: john malkovitch
b. a.: robert downey jr.
face: cary elwes

I'd love to see -

Hugh Laurie (Hannibal)
Johnny Depp (Murdock)
I have shockingly low knowledge of black American actors and can only think of ones from sci-fi (and Will Smith). So, um, the bloke who plays Teal'C (?) (BA)
Eric Stoltz (Face)

"murdock: john malkovitch" - the rook

very nice. put christopher walken in that movie somewhere and we're in business.

I retract my consideration for Tommy Lee Jones as Hannibal. Put The Walken in as Hannibal instead.

Thanks for the suggestion Bill!

I like some of the suggestions, but I have a different spin on it.

Tommy Lee Jones (Hannibal)
Ving Rhames (B.A.)
Brad Pitt (Face)
Owen Wilson (Murdock)

My preference would be:

BA - Ice Cube (no 2nd thoughts)
Murdock - Johnny Knoxville (not a great actor, but perfect for the role)
Face - Rob Lowe (I think Rob would be great at this, but I could also see David Duchovny or Mark Wahlberg.)
Hannibal - Phillip Seymor Hoffman (He has the whole package. I like Bruce Willis or Mel Gibson too though. Not sure they can get either for this role though.)

Heh. They're doing it in the comments of the Onion AV now: http://www.avclub.com/articles/the-ateam-movie-back-on-track,23142/

B)

my dream cast for the a-team movie
, Hannibal : Mel Gibson
BA : the orhinal actor could do it MT T
Murdoch : Jim Carey
Face : Owen Willson

Cary Elwes as Face is perfect.
Ving Rhames is probably the only one to do justice for BA.
Nicholas Cage would be my first pick for Murdock with Johnny knoxville as a close second.
But For Hannibal, and have yet to see anyone post this yet. John Travolta. Although he would have to do it with white hair.

I LOVED whoever named Katee Sackhoff for the role of Face!!! Brilliant!

Richard Dean Anderson might work as Hannibal also.

Mos Def as B.A.? Unlikely! Have you seen any of his movies? :P
