the Doctor on Obama

Time travel with me back to June of this year, when our favorite Time Lord commented on U.S. electoral politics, via cartoonist Tom Tomorrow:

(There’s more to the cartoon, but that’s the extent of the Doctor’s appearance.)

I'm having some trouble drawing the line between June's "isn't it funny that we might be voting for a black man whose name is Hussein and whose Dad was a Muslim" and November's "we can't vote for a black man whose name is Hussein and who might be a Muslim". I blame Proposition 8 for making me lose my sense of proportion. I'm sure I'll be back to my chipper self soon.

The joke in June was that GW Bush is such a colossal fuckup that he paved the way for anyone who promised to be different, even a black man whose middle name is Hussein and might be Muslim. The joke today is on anyone who screamed, "We can't vote for a black man whose middle name is Hussein and might be Muslim," because, clearly, most people had no problem with that.
